A visit to a beautiful waterfall in Indonesia where the nature is stunning but there seems to be no management of trash control. The amount of packaging and plastic we found was insane, bottled drinks that had only a sip taken out of them, bunches of straws, crisp packets etc. Luckily in the mess of course we found some plastic bags so we tried to clear up as much as we could. To be package free here is quite unrealistic . . sometimes foods are wrapped in Banana leaf but generally in Asia it seems plastic rules . . .
What to do . . . .Refuse plastic in every situation. People will try to give you plastic bags, plastic cutlery, plastic straws, just refuse.
.Carry your own eating utensils/containers and reusable straws. .Keep your refillable bottle with you and try to find the big water tanks to fill it.
Here the tap water is not drinkable so it can be very difficult, people have to buy the big tanks of water from their local Indomart . . I feel that water filers and boiling the water could be a solution but people don't do this. I'm curious to find out more about the water situation here.
In any case if you decide to visit some beautiful natural location and its covered in trash, try to collect some of it and share your finds . .
Every small action counts
